Gallery Host
Position Summary The Gallery Host is responsible for providing attentive and quality service to guests and Museum staff. The Gallery Host processes admissions and memberships and acts as the chief point of information for all guests.
Essential Functions - Help Museum guests by providing information about the Delaware Children's Museum.
- Process admissions transactions for guests. Issues tickets to guests.
- Handle cash, checks, credit cards, debit cards, gift certificates, and split-tender transaction. Handle returns and exchanges.
- Maintains a change fund and balances sales each shift.
- Explains membership program and actively sells the opportunity to guests.
- Scans admission tickets and membership cards to validate guest’s visit.
- Actively engages guests to enhance their experience at the Delaware Children's Museum.
- Assists with managing crowds when Museum areas become congested.
- Helps separated children and adults get reunited.
- Ensures that Museum rules, safety standards, and sanitation requirements are followed.
- Has a working knowledge of fire-extinguisher and first-aid kit locations.
- Understands emergency and evacuation procedures.
- Assists with keeping work areas orderly. Cleans as required.
- Is available to work in other Museum areas as requested.
- Responds promptly to guest and staff needs.
- Maintains continued interest in the Delaware Children's Museum’s exhibits and educational content to better serve the guest.
- Assists in training new staff.
- Participates in educational opportunities for personal growth and development, including cross-training opportunities.
- Completes assignments in a timely manner and within the Museum’s standards.
- Maintains good attendance and communicates with supervisory staff on scheduling issues.
- Is available to work on weekends and holidays.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience working with children in an educational setting.
- One to two years' experience working in a customer-service position.
- One to two years' experience operating a point-of-sale system and handling cash.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills working with guests and staff.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Must have the ability to participate effectively in teams.
- Experience explaining and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Must be flexible with work schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Requires considerable movement around the Museum to monitor activities.
- Must have ability to prioritize and plan work activities in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage multiple work demands, and adjust to delays and unexpected events.
