The new Delaware Children's Museum is the result of a shared vision held by many throughout the Delaware community. What was started in a simple storefront years ago by a small group of dedicated parents has grown into a multi-million dollar attraction on the Christina River. It could not have been built without the tireless efforts of our dedicated Board of Directors, generous founding partners and energetic staff.

Julie W. Van Blarcom is an experienced senior executive and skilled fundraiser with 30 years of management experience in Delaware and Washington, D.C.

Julie's experience encompasses many sectors of the nonprofit community. She began her professional life as a program officer for the Morris Goldseker Foundation, a private Baltimore grant-making foundation, where she was responsible for recommending 35% of the grant-making portfolio and monitoring its success. She then went on to work for The Council on Foundations, the largest national membership association of philanthropy in the nation.  She was hired to manage an innovative special project designed to grow philanthropic foundations across the country. Julie also served as the staff liaison for the regional grantmakers' association and grantmaking affinity groups.

When she moved to upstate New York, Julie then established her own consulting business, specializing in fundraising and nonprofit management.

Since moving to Delaware in 1992, Julie has raised more than $60 million for a variety of organizations, and served as the campaign and executive directors for ArtCo (a $21 million facility fund for arts organizations in Delaware) and Opera Delaware, which under her tenure experienced its greatest financial growth and artistic successes.

Julie is currently Executive Director and CEO of the newly opened Delaware Children's Museum (DCM), the first and only institution of its kind in Delaware. Since joining DCM in late 2007, Julie led the organization's capital campaign, raising $12.6 million (exceeding the $12.5 million goal) and opened the Museum to great acclaim in April 2010.

"I'm passionate about the Delaware Children's Museum for so many reasons. It supports Vision 2015 in providing another complementary setting for learning."
